Welcome back to our Star Wars coloring book club…Mei-Mei and I color the same picture every month and compare/contrast. If you own this coloring book and want to join in, please let us know! 🙂 You can find her picture here.
I LOVED THIS PICTURE. I wasn’t so sure of it as first, but I ended up loving how aggressive it was. There were a lot of jagged lines, and sharp angles, which made the picture seem angry.
When I first looked at it, I thought, “Wow, look at the contrast of the middle/center, versus everything around it.” The clone trooper (Captain Rex) immediately reminded me more of the Battlestar Galactica cylon from the original show in the 70s, so I decided to do a nod in that direction, but still keep the white around the troopers helmet. What a difference red makes, as opposed to blue and black on the helmet, eh?
The middle of the picture, on the other hand, had a total zen effect on me. I thought it looked very calming and almost psychedelic. Knowing I wanted to create an aggressive tone with the clone troopers, I instead went in the opposite direction for the center and chose calming colors like purples and greens. I wanted there to be a very strong contrast between the outside and inside.
I would say that this is definitely the first picture that I colored where I did not feel very calm. I did while I colored the center, but not when I did the outside. In a way, this goes to prove that coloring IS calming, but you really should stick with the curves, flowers, and less angled lines in order to get that effect.
Be sure to check out Mei-Mei’s picture if you haven’t yet…she was inspired by TMNT for a very interesting effect. Her picture is definitely a lot happier and less aggressive than mine. 🙂
Mei-Mei, I want to do the first and last pictures of the coloring book for my next two. So let’s start with the last coloring page in the book for August!
