Fan Art Friday! Jar Jar’s Peekaboo

Welcome back to Fan Art Friday! Mei-Mei and I have been doing this for almost two years (with some significant breaks) now and I realized that this week and was blown away by that fact. To those of you who don’t know – Mei-Mei and I have never met IRL, we are WordPress buds so it’s amazing what this little community can do in bringing people together. ๐Ÿ™‚

I picked this month’s pictures and I randomly opened to a page where the choices were Jar Jar or Amidala. Since we had done Amidala recently, that left us with Jar Jar.

And, weirdly, I really enjoyed this picture – as did Mei-Mei.

The joy for me was not in Jar Jar so much, but in the design around him. I randomly picked those colors by reaching into my color pencil box and using whatever came out – and I thought they worked really well! They are soothing colors that, coincidentally, are very reminiscent of Otoh Gunga.

Character pieces are hard for me because I almost always screw up something. Thankfully, with Jar Jar, it wasn’t as bad as it’s been with others. I made his neck a little too dark – but I’m not as torn about it as I usually am!

It got me thinking, while coloring, will we ever see Jar Jar again in a movie? I think it’s a resounding no, but I wonder if Disney will ever be confident enough to throw him in a movie. Not a main part or anything, but, say, if someone was looking for directions and they asked someone on the street and he could say, “Meesa thinks you want to go left uppa dere!” People could roll their eyes but it wouldn’t tarnish the movie in any way, right?

But then again, you’d probably have some people write reviews only focusing on that one scene and how it ruined everything so I can see how Disney wants to be careful.

Be sure to check out Mei-Mei’s picture, where she decided that since Jar Jar was ridiculous, her picture would be ridiculous too!

  1. Hello Kiri, another Jar-Jar? Just kidding! I have checked out Mei-Mei’s version and I have to say there is definitely a Force connection between the two of you! Both of you coloured the “swirlies” (love that word!) in watery colours and Otoh Gunga was the first thing that sprang to mind when I saw both pics! And I don’t think the neck is too dark, you have to consider there is a large portion of black shadow outline which darkens neighbouring colours. Meesa likin thisa also.

  2. Wow, two years?! ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m so glad you had this idea!! It’s honestly one of the highlights of blogging for me.
I love this one! Yours is like the realistic, grown-up version of mine haha. The color choices for the swirlies were perfect! And Jar Jar looks great. We definitely had the same vibes this week.

    1. Haha yay! And in all honesty, I did mine in 30 minutes the night before and that’s why I pulled the colors for the swirlies at random. I felt too guilty asking to move it back a week AGAIN. But God to know I can pull off a nice looking pic in 30 minutes!
