I have become slightly less enamored with May the 4th in the past year. I still think it’s a fun, silly “holiday” but it seems so random. As I wrote last year, it came from a tagline from an event in Canada…and, well, it has now reached epic proportions.
But if you think about it, saying “May the 4th be with you,” doesn’t really coincide with the love people have for Star Wars. As The RebeLibrarian recently wrote – and official Star Wars day should really be May 25th, the day that Star Wars was first ever released in theaters 40 years ago. She strongly advocates that if any day should be Star Wars day, it should be May 25th. And I’m beginning to see her thinking and will celebrate May 25th as my own personal Star Wars day instead (especially this year – where we reach the 40th anniversary).
So, today, I’m taking it easy a little bit. I’m wearing my Star Wars sweatshirt, but I would probably be wearing that anyway, with or without a Star Wars day. I’m also pretty sick, so baking cookies is out of the question. I’ve been listening to Star Wars-only tracks today and that seems good enough for me.
I leave you with this photo of my brother and I at Celebration II. Back when they did not have life sized replicas of beasts and locations and lines for seeing major guests were only 4 hours long….those were the days….
